shortly after the last Anime World, i heard rumors that anime world was bought by wizards world, and it was briefly listed on their site. so now im confused, was anime world bought by wizards world, and now back to being independent. because now i cant find a single reference on either site.
so my question is what happened?

Anime World was never bought by Wizard World (nor was that offer ever on the table). In 2012 Wizard approached us asking if we would partner with them for a few shows -- they wanted to expand their anime programming, but didn't want to have to dedicate their own staff and resources to run an anime track, so basically they wanted to subcontract us to run an event the same weekend as theirs. While it's true that Anime World's then-CEO was in talks with Wizard for a few months, the deal fell through and no contracts were ever signed. (Technically it should not have been announced on either company's website, as it was never a done deal.) We have never done an event in conjunction with with Wizard, nor are there any plans to for the forseeable future. We like being independent.  |
